“Still a Good Mom” Cartoons Shed Light on Moms Suffering from PPD

Postpartum depression affects lots of women. In the US, 70% to 80% will experience PPD, and so will 10% to 20% of new mothers. 1 in 7 women may experience PPD within a year after giving birth.

Jamina Bone was one of these unfortunate women. On her second pregnancy and when she gave birth, she was afflicted with PPD. As she went through it, she felt as if she was stuck in a rut unable to go out or even a quicksand where everything seems to be falling apart. She was expected to be a good mom while she was braving through PPD.

Over time, she gathered up enough strength and dug her way out of it. She is now a stronger and happier woman. One thing that truly helped her was drawing about moms in everyday situations. She calls her illustrations, “Still a Good Mom,” which became viral.
