A Fishing Boat that Saved a Kitten’s Life Makes the Headlines and Touches People’s Hearts

Recently, a fishing crew in Alabama’s Gulf of Mexico, while approaching the Perdido Pass, spotted an unfamiliar sight. A strange animal seemed to be struggling on the water surface. They thought that it could have been a turtle, but on closer inspection, they discovered that it was a cat.

They quickly scooped it from the water and took it into the boat. The Still Flying Charters operator, and owner, Steve Crews, continued that he held the ginger-haired kitty in his lap for a while, then one of the boys carried him. If not for that chance that they had to be there at the exact moment, the kitty would have drowned.

The story was posted on Facebook on July 30th. The speculation is that the kitten was thrown in the waters by a disgruntled owner or someone who wanted to use it as shark bait.

When Steve went home with the kitty, he seemed uncomfortable inside the home. They ended up sending him off with the friend as there he could be safe outside.

They are still looking for a name for him. People have a bunch of aquatic names they have suggested. Steve and his wife considered Lucky or Shark Bait. They think Shark Bait fits, but don’t know whether the new owner went for it.
