Hospital Murals Created by an Italian Artist Cheer Up Both Adults and Children (30 photos)

A hospital is not a place reeking of fun and happiness because it’s supposed to be a place where the sick go. As such, the decoration is bleak and simple, most often dull and boring. This is not true in all cases, though.

Silvio Irilli, a painter from Italy, revolutionized how 12 hospitals look with this Ospedali Dipinti project (Painted Hospitals) over 7 years. The radical transformation of these institutions is really impressive. His distinct style is evident in all areas of the hospital from the cancer units, radiology, children’s reception, even the oculist’s office.

Silvio was inspired by his personal stay in hospitals as he frequented them for his therapy. He aimed to give back to the doctors who supported him all the way.

Also, the artist wanted to create a place where kids who may be afraid of treatments will feel more comfortable. This motivation is what made his artwork appealing to all children. He longs to make the hospital a place for them to keep on dreaming and imagining.

However, his work is not meant for kids alone. There are designs created for adults as well, such as those made to bring them to an emotional environment, like in another dimension or a point in history.
