Under-the-Sea Creatures Captured in Fantastic Photos Seemingly CGI (30 images)

Alexander Semenov is an invertebrate specialist in the White Sea Biological Station of Moscow State University and who takes photos of his subjects, the marine life, as well. As a professional photographer, he’s particularly interested in macro photography and it helps him study underwater organisms in their natural habitat more closely as he takes photos of them outside of the laboratory.

He wants people to take an interest in marine biology or at least appreciate these animals more through his photos. So, he shares all his images in his media events, exhibitions, movies, and public lectures.

His photos have been circulating on the internet and have gone viral since continuously mesmerizing people who view them.

He has been to the Mediterranean, White Sea, Southern Maldives, and the Southern Kuril Islands to take photos of these underwater creatures.

In an interview with EIZO, he shared that it’s a challenge to take these photos because of the shifting colors and light and extensive editing is required to get it right. He makes sure that the photos look natural, though, and not edit too much to depict the creatures as they truly are. Also, knowing that they will be utilized in various platforms will require fantastic looking photos so that people will appreciate them.

Aquatilis is Semenov’s project with his team as they photograph extraordinary organisms from the ocean. They take inspiration from Thor Heyerdahl, Jules Verne, and Jacques Yves Cousteau and team.
