Photographer Posts Series of Pictures that Showcase the Poverty-Stricken Sector in the US

People migrate to the US to follow the American Dream. They work hard, obey the laws, and be a productive member of society. Some reach the pinnacle and truly become a success, and some crash and burn. Then the American Dream becomes an American Nightmare.

The disenfranchised people that are living the nightmare are dirt poor and living in the dirtiest of places. They live below the poverty line and do not get the same benefits that ordinary citizens do. They can hardly put food on the table and are hanging on by the thinnest of margins in society.

Photographer Joakim Eskildsen decided to showcase the plight of these people in his “American Realities” series of photographs, collected in a book of the same name.
