A Beachcomber’s Best Finds Next to Treasure

An anonymous Slovenian beachcomber has been creating jewellery from numerous things he found on the beach in Ankaran, Slovenia, and posting it on Instagram and Etsy. If this is the type of adornment you like to decorate your body with, then you will love these pretty thingamajigs.

Many things like old coins, silverware, ceramics, and other 100-plus-year-old objects wash up on this particular beach. It is because, around a century ago, Italian ships have dumped their trash close to the area. Over the years, with storms and waves, historic artifacts are brought in by the tide.

This beachcomber’s best find is a 200-year-old undamaged Maraschino liqueur from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After finding it, he returned it to the Cosmacendi Palace, where the bottle’s maker had lived. The place is now called the Museum of Ancient Glass. It was a truly incredible find since it was a bottle with no proof of existence.
